shouldn’t be a rapper
telling me how to avoid women
who want to steal my money.
The voice of our generation
shouldn’t be a politician,
a soldier,
a teacher,
a bartender.
It shouldn’t be a factory worker,
a middle class family,
an author,
or a pro football player.
It shouldn’t be an inmate
or his guard,
a pastor,
or a lunatic yelling at passers by
on a busy street.
No, on this crowded street,
on these buzzing airwaves,
the voice of our generation should
remain silent, and listen.
With so much noise, sometimes
it’s hard to separate
right from
wrong.
