‘It’s always been like this’
said the leaf borne in warm weather,
as he doesn’t even see the burnt
orange,
taking root in his veins.
‘Why would it change?’
He said.
His color became undeniable,
The cold was insurmountable,
He fell.
‘Why?’ He asked.
But all he heard was the wind,
because it had always been that way.
my father always said, “early to bed and
early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy
and wise.”
it was lights out at 8 p.m. in our house
and we were up at dawn to the smell of
coffee, frying bacon and scrambled
eggs.
my father followed this general routine
for a lifetime and died young, broke,
and, I think, not too
wise.
taking note, I rejected his advice and it
became, for me, late to bed and late
to rise.
now, I’m not saying that I’ve conquered
the world but I’ve avoided
numberless early traffic jams, bypassed some
common pitfalls
and have met some strange, wonderful
people
one of whom
was
myself—someone my father
never
knew.

I’m sick of grown men who don’t know how to stay composed.
Excerpt I’m particularly proud of from my most recent project.
The more crowded it got and the more public everyone’s business became led humanity to the conclusion that we were all really going to the same place, just at different times. Cars had become mostly obsolete, replaced with trains that traversed many hundreds of miles in minutes. In spite of this, when I was asked to piss in a radiator I was slightly surprised.
“Car technology never passed beyond the point of radiators?”
His companion kicked the hood of their car. “If you have a diseased field, you don’t keep watering it. Now piss, I can’t even spit right now.”
The Internet installation guy is coming today. Oh fuck he’s gonna judge me so hard.
I think had I been born in a simpler time I would have made shoes. They’re so cool.
I done it again.
I’m gonna meet a nice girl and put a smile on her face that will make all the other girls jealous.
